Body Awareness Strategies to Improve Emotional Self-Regulation in Five-Year-Old Children
Main Article Content
Abstract
Emotional self-regulation is a key competence in early childhood and is closely related to the recognition of bodily sensations associated with emotions. However, many children experience difficulties identifying and managing their emotional responses in school contexts. This study aimed to analyze emotional self-regulation in five-year-old children and describe the contribution of body awareness strategies to improve it. A mixed-methods descriptive study with a one-group pretest–posttest design was conducted with 27 children and four teachers using observation checklists and interviews. Results showed improvements in emotional identification, relaxation strategies, and empathy, suggesting that body awareness activities may support emotional regulation in early childhood education.
